Escape from New York is a 1981 sci-fi action film directed by John Carpenter. It stars Kurt Russell as a former soldier turned criminal who is sent to rescue the President of the United States from a maximum-security prison in a dystopian, crime-ridden Manhattan.
The poster's title font resembles two fonts, namely Gamer by Canada Type or Cornered by SoftMaker. Both of these fonts were likely inspired by an old film typeface called "Checkmate" created by Lettergraphics.
